Floors - Solid / Suspended / Ground / First

There are a number of different floor constructions, and they all have there advantages depending on where they are going and what is required in the way of insulation and finishes etc.

Here are the main types:
Solid Floors - For use as a ground floor where the fround is good, and can be reduced and levelled and then built up to meet the existing floor level of your home.

Suspended Concrete floors

These are preffered if the round level is too low and needs too much building up or if the ground is uneven or off poor structural quality, the concrete beams have steel re-inforcing rods in them and are T shaped (but upsaide down) so that concrete blocks are then laid between the beams. This is the most basic version of a suspended floor as there are now more complicated and insulated versions available depending on the depths required.

Suspended timber and ground floors.

Not oftern used today for ground floors, but very popular with first floors, the joists are either built in or on hangers and can be insulated and boarded to your choice.
