Excavation

Digging! Most of the excavation work required on your extension will be excavating the foundations ready for concreting. When you excavate soil from the ground it will 'bulk up' this means that 1m2 of compact soil in the ground, by the time it is excavated ready to be taken away or spread out, it has broken up and will equate to 1.5 or 2.00m3 of excavated soil, depending on the type.

There are also other areas where excavating may be required, this is often referred to as a 'reduce level dig'. Depending on the ground levels where you live, they may need to do this to reduce the soild /ground level so they can build up the correct layers of material to construct your floor to bring it to match the existing floor level in your home.
